Eger English Camp

Our church in Eger is now 4 years old. We used to live in Debrecen and work with that church, and also came up here for 2 years for a Bible study that started with a girl, Judit, who got saved at Debrecen's English camp.
We now have our own English camp for the local high school and college students. It has grown tremendously, with 35 at the first camp and 80 kids at last year's camp. We are expecting 100 kids to attend this year.
Speaking a foreign language is a must here-and to graduate high school, most students need to speak 2 languages. Americans cannot comprehend that, as so many people I know think they can speak Spanish if they can order food-tacos and salsa por favor!!
We try to create a native speaking environment by bringing native speakers-mostly Americans, but this year an Australian couple as well-and by spending all day together.

I am writing this note to let you native speakers know about our outreach to our community, and to ask you to contact me if you are interested in coming to help with the camp.

The camp runs with about the same program every day: 3 hours in the morning in conversation with a native speaker (we have some Hungarians come who teach the beginners), free time in the afternoons where the kids can choose an activity like crafts, sports, hiking, baking, etc, and then we end the day with an "exciting" evening program like a talent show, games/activities, and our biggest hit-an American Idol style Karaoke contest. Really. I have stage fright, but Nick makes me do it and I sang Like A Virgin when I was 9 months pregnant.

Prayer Requests and Praise Reports

God has been doing good things in our church lately!
There are new people attending the church.

• One that we are really excited about is someone we've known for years. He a member of a family in our church, and we have been praying for him for years, that he would come to know the Lord. Recently he started attending the church and meeting with me (Nick) during the week. God has really changed him a lot, and we are so amazed as we see what God is doing in his life.
• Another new person is a woman who came to our church because she has a lot of difficulties and wanted us to pray for her. When she came the first time, she told us that her whole family is unemployed, her husband has cancer, and her brother is in a coma, because a scaffolding fell on him. We prayed for her, and the next week she came back with some great news: Her brother came out of the coma - which he had been in for weeks at that point! Praise the Lord! It is so cool to see God answer prayers in this way - where it is a testimony to those who aren't yet believers, or who are new believers. Since that time, God has also answered prayers in regard to her work situation, and now her and one of her sons have gotten jobs!
  

Besides this, there are always new faces, and lately we've had more and more students from the local high schools and the college. We are very glad to have them as part of our fellowship as well.

At the same time that we are blessed to have new people in the church, we don't want to neglect those who have faithfully been part of the church for years. There are some of these people whom we haven't see so much around the church lately; please pray for these people, that they would remain close to the Lord and remain in fellowship.

And please continue to pray for God to draw many people to Himself in Eger!

4 Years

This past Sunday marked the fourth anniversary of our church in Eger.
On Easter 2005 we started the church formally with our first Sunday service. Since that time God has done good things amongst us; people have come to know the Lord, been baptized, stepped into ministry, etc...
We can see that we are having an impact for Christ in Eger, and that is a good feeling. We believe that this is only the beginning of what God wants to do here.
Please pray for spiritual awakening in Eger, and for many to be saved. Please pray that God would fill up our church with people who come to worship Him and hear His Word!
Our vision is to see our church so filled up that we have to have 2 services. Please pray that this vision would become a reality.

Rosemary and I have been in Eger for 4 years now too. In that time we've gained some weight, seen some things, had a kid, and picked another one up along the way.
Currently we're trying to buy a house; please pray for that! We've made an offer on a house, but haven't heard anything back on it yet.

But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, “You are my God." My times are in your hand.

February Update

Greetings from Eger!

Here's an update on what's been going on with us for the past 2 months.
At Christmas time we got to go to the States to visit our family and friends. It always seems that our trips to the States are both too short and too long - because we don't get to have enough time as we'd like with everyone, but yet it is a long time to be away from Eger.
It was really nice to have a family Christmas in Colorado with Nick's parents and Rosemary's brother, Tony. It was a blessing to get to visit with our friends and supporters as well.

Since arriving back in Hungary, we've been sick quite a bit. Just this past week we all got the flu, and Nate had a fever of 104 F (40 C) for 3 days, and still has a fever, although it is getting lower.

One big thing that happened recently, is that 2 weeks ago our house got broken into and robbed. We went out for dinner with some friends, and came home to find our stuff all over the floor. It took a minute to realize what had happened, and then we started looking for our stuff, and realized that a lot of things were missing. The robbers broke into our building with a crowbar, and then went out into our yard and pried one of our windows open, and came in that way. The police came out and we filed a report, but so far they haven't found anything. All in all, we lost about $5000 worth of stuff - mostly electronics and jewelry, including our laptop and camera and some stuff that we can't replace, like Rosemary's mom's wedding ring, and jewelry from our wedding. The bright side is that we weren't home when it happened, and we're all safe. Its an unsettling feeling that someone broke in; Balázs was especially shaken up by it. This is the first time someone's broken in, but the second time we've been robbed here at this place, and someone tried to break into another flat in this building last year.
We would like to move sometime soon, not just because of this, but because we'd also like to have another baby, and would need the extra space. We'd like to maybe buy a flat or house rather than rent. We've started looking already, but we're probably going to start doing it more seriously after this.

Personal

Nathaniel: Is now almost 18 months, and he is quite the busy little boy. He is starting so say some words and loves to imitate things and make animal noises.
We had to take him to the emergency room for the first time recently, because he climbed out of his crib and hit his head on the floor. We had a big bump on his head that lasted a week and a half, and we had to take him to get x-rays, but thankfully there was no serious problem.

Balázs: Has been doing better in school since he moved in with us. We can see that he has a lot more self-confidence, and its nice to see him growing as a person.
He is finishing the 8th grade, so he will start Secondary School in the fall. He applied to a good school here in Eger that specializes in technology, and it looks like they will accept him.

Rosemary: Has been sick 3 times already in the past month, and hasn't been getting a lot of sleep because of the baby being sick too. She's been having a rough time of it, so please pray for her.

Nick: Started studying theology through a distance learning program with the University of Gloucestershire (England), and is excited to go back to school and hopefully get a degree out it.

Prayer Reqests:

• Praise the Lord that we are all safe

Calvary Chapel of Eger
On Feb 6-8 we had our 3rd annual church retreat in Mátrafüred, about an hour from Eger. These retreats are one our favorite things we do with the church. They are always times when we grow closer to the Lord and closer to each other, as we spend the weekend in fellowship together, hanging out, cooking, playing sports, going hiking, and studying God's Word.
Horvát-Kávai Árpi, Andi, and Nina came up from Vajta, and Árpi taught the Bible studies, which were a blessing to everyone.

We have started planning for our summer English Camp outreach, which will be July 27- Aug 1. We are praying for helpers to come, as we are expecting a bigger turnout than ever before. We just got the flyers back from the printer - we ordered almost twice as many as in previous years, and we hope to have more kids there than ever before. If the Lord does this, then it will require a lot more work and a lot more helpers, so please pray for that.

The church as a whole is doing well. The last few weeks we have had a packed house on Sundays, so much so, that people have had a hard time finding seats. Praise the Lord for that, and pray that it continues, and the Lord uses us in a great way to make disciples and reach Eger for Jesus Christ.

One noteworthy thing, is that on one of our Wednesday night Bible studied a few weeks ago, one of the girls in the church made the comment, What, are there only guys in this church? Now, that's obviously an exaggeration, since there are many girls in the church - its probably 50-50 really, but it shows that God has really answered our prayers for more men and families to join the church. Of the people who have recently joined the church, most of them are men. We see this as a really good thing, because when we started the church was almost only young girls, and we are glad to have this healthy balance.

Szihalom Children's Program

Last Saturday we did a Children's Program in Szihalom, and it went really well.
Quite a few kids came out - many more than we've ever had at any of our children's programs we've done in Eger.

I think that part of the reason is that there is never anything going on in villages, so when there is a program like this, everyone knows about it and everyone comes out. In Eger there is a lot of stuff going on all the time, and its hard to get the word out about a program like this. In Szihalom, we just print out a few posters on our printer, and within a day, the whole village knows about it and is talking about it!

The other day, I went to Szihalom to meet with Balázs's head master (he still goes to school in Szihalom every day), and as I walked down the hall, everyone knew who I was, because we've made a reputation for ourselves in the village!

We're glad about this open door in Szihalom, and are praying for the Lord's will and direction in what to do, and how, in the future.

Weds. Night Bible Study Changes

Our officially started our church back in March of 2005, and at that time we started studying the book of Genesis on Wednesday nights.
Just last Wednesday we finished the last chapter of Deuteronomy, meaning that we finished studying through the entire Torah. It only took 3.5 yrs :)

And tonight, we begin a new book - the Letter to the Hebrews - in a new location; as of tonight our Wednesday night Bible study will be at the Kálvin Ház - where our church office is, and where we have church on Sunday mornings.

Until now we had been meeting the apartment of Jani and Tünde, which was a cool element, I think it will be a good thing for us to be in the same place for both services - not to mention that their apartment was getting a bit small for the Bible study, and we hope that having it in a more public place, downtown, will also attract others to come, especially college students, who might have been reluctant to go to someone's apartment.

The time of the study is also changing from 7pm to 6pm.

November Update

Greetings from Eger!

Life and ministry have been very eventful over the last few months, with even some big changes in our family life, which you can read about below.
We will be going to America for Christmas - the first time we'll have been with family at Christmas in many years.
We'll be in Denver from Dec 12-27, in S.California from Dec 27-Jan 10, and Vancouver, B.C. from Jan 10-14.
We'd love to see as many friends/family/supporters as possible; if you'd like to get together, please let us know ASAP, so we can schedule it in!

Calvary Chapel Eger
So much has happened in the life of the church over the last few months.
A couple from the church, Jani and Ági, got married on September 20th. Ági was one of the first people in our church, and we are very blessed to see how the Lord brought these two together. More about this...
We have more and more married couples in the church, which changes the feeling of the church in a good way, and is an answer to prayer. In October another couple got engaged, and will be getting married in the spring.

In October we had a baptism at a lake near Eger. This was the 2nd baptism we held this year, and it is always great to see the fruit of what the Lord has done in the lives of those in the church, as they make this public statement about being born again and being committed to following Jesus. We already have more people set to be baptized at our next baptism next year, when the weather gets better! More about this...

Last weekend we did a clothing drive in Szihalom, a relatively poor village near Eger. There are some people from Szihalom in our church, and God has opened some doors there for us to reach out to the village. This is the 3rd year we've done a clothing drive here, and each year we have been able to provide more clothes, had more people come, and been more effective in sharing the Gospel message along with the free clothing. More and more in the church, we see that people have a desire to serve and to do things for others - and this is good fruit, and the evidence of the Lord's work in their lives. More about this...
We will be doing a Children's Program in Szihalom on Dec 6, as another outreach to the village, to see what God might do there through our church.

As we will be away for a month, the church's elders - Jani and Shane - will be overseeing things. It seems that when we away like this, the church often experiences more spiritual attacks, so please keep that in prayer.

Prayer Requests:

• Praise the Lord for all the good things He is doing among us!
  
• Please pray for the married couples in our church, that their marriages would be strong, stable, and glorifying to the Lord.
• For the new believers in the church, and those who were baptized recently, that their faith would have a strong foundation, and that they would be used by the Lord as His witnesses in this city
• For the village of Szihalom, that God would use our church to communicate His love to the people who live there, and that many kids would turn out for our Children's program
• For the church while we are away, for Jani and Shane, for God's protection over His flock.
  
• For those in the church who are struggling financially, who are at risk of losing their jobs and homes.
• For a great harvest of souls in Eger!

Family
The biggest change in our family life, is that we are in the process of taking in a young guy from church as a foster child.
His name is Balázs and he's 14 years old and in the 8th grade.
He's being taken away from his mom, and would have ended up in an orphanage if no one had been willing to take him in.
We've know him for the last 2 years that he's been part of our church; during that time his dad died, and he's been living in a pretty rough situation at home, without basic needs.
James 2:14-17 says: What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?
If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?
So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
This is the verse that the Lord placed on our hearts and brought to our minds as we were praying about what to do with Balázs, and it directly applies to this situation.
We believe this is God's will for us and for Balázs, so we're going for it. Its going to change our lives quite a bit - our apartment is going to be a little cramped and its going to be tighter financially, but, as we talked about in church this Sunday, if we would know how everything's going to work out, then it wouldn't be a step of faith.
We are here to have an impact on people's lives for the Lord, and this is a good opportunity for us to do that in Balázs's life.

In other news, Nathaniel has started to walk, and is now running all over. He is a great blessing to us. He has recently been a bit sick from some vaccinations he got, and he will be getting another one right before we travel to the States, which makes us a bit nervous.

Rosemary has been able to be more active in the church lately; now that Nate's getting bigger, she can get out of the house more and attend more meetings. She's started doing women's ministry again, and started a Bible study for the young girls. Her hands and feet haven't been causing her a lot of pain lately, which is really nice.

Nick has been working part time for the last year and a half, teaching English, to make ends meet, as the drop in the value of the dollar hit us pretty hard. In April he got a really great job, with few hours, decent pay, and his own office! The job was too good to be true, and he got laid off in September - which actually turned out to be a blessing. He now only works a few hours a week at a language school, and has more time for the family and for the church.

Prayer Requests:

• Please pray for the 4 of us as we make this transition to Balázs joining our household
• Please pray that we would have wisdom to raise a teenager
• Please pray that we could raise him in the Lord's ways.
• For Nathaniel to be healthy, happy, strong, and smart
• For us, that we would be good parents, who are able to raise our kids in the Lord's ways
• For our marriage to be strong and a good example to others
• For Rosemary's hands and feet
• For our trip to America, especially for Nathaniel to do well on the airplanes, and for Nick as he might be driving from Denver to San Diego by himself
• For us to find a place for Balázs to stay for the time that we'll be in America

Clothing Drive

Yesterday, our church did a clothing drive in Szihalom, a relatively poor village near Eger. There are some people from Szihalom in our church, and God has opened some doors there for us to reach out to the village.

This is the 3rd year we have done a clothing drive here, and each year we have been able to provide more clothes, had more people come, and been more effective in sharing the Gospel message along with the free clothing.

More and more in the church, we see that people have a desire to serve and to do things for others - and this is good fruit, and the evidence of the Lord's work in their lives.

Please pray for the village of Szihalom - that God would bless these people and that they would come to know His great love, and that He would show us what our part as a church is in that.
Please also pray for the Children's Program we will do in Szihalom on Dec 6.

Sándor

I (Nick) have a part time job teaching English at a language school in Eger to get a little extra cash to make ends meet.
The job is a big blessing, because I also get to meet a lot of people through it, including a lot of businessmen and influencial people in the city who come there to learn English, and I often get the chance to share with them about the church and about the real reason I'm in Hungary. For a while, every Thursday I would go to the county courthouse and teach the head judge for Heves county, and I got to talk to her about the Lord quite a few times.
The other day I was teaching in the school, and a group was there who had come from another town (Nyírbátor) to do an intensive course. During a break I got to talking to one of the guys from the group, named Sándor. He asked how long I'd been teaching English, and I told him I only do this part time, because I'm the pastor of a church, and thats the real reason I'm here.
He was really interested when he found out I was a pastor, and told me that he was a believer too and asked if we had a midweek service, because he wanted to come.
But he also told me about a problem he has - he is married, and his wife is against him being an active Christian and doesn't allow him to go to church, and the whole issue of him being a Christian has caused a lot of problems in his family.
But since his wife wasn't in town, he came to our church on Wednesday night - even invited some other people to come with him - and we had a nice time fellowshipping with him and prayed for him and his wife.
Unfortunately, Sándor's story is not a very uncommon thing that we encounter here. Please pray for Sándor and others like him whom we've met, and who have been in our church or gotten saved through our outreaches, but whose families are opposed to them walking with the Lord and taking an active part in the Body of Christ.

Coming to America

We've bought our tickets, and we're going to the States in December and January. This will be our first time home for Christmas in a long time, and we're looking forward to it.

• For safe and easy travel - especially with Nathaniel

Financial Woes

Things are tough everywhere right now, and we are feeling the impact of the global economic crisis here in Eger as well.
A lack of jobs in Eger has always been a problem in the church, and we have had to say goodbye to many people over the last couple years who would have liked to stay in Eger, but because of lack of job opportunities.
With the economic crisis, people who work at some of the multinational companies and factories in Eger have been losing their jobs. We had 2 more people lose their jobs this weekend, and there are others whose are in danger of being laid off.
Despite these difficulties, the church is continuing to grow, which is great to see. It is kind of like a revolving door - there are always people coming in and going out.

• Please pray for Erika and Jani, that they would be able to find new jobs, so they can stay in Eger.
• Pleae pray for Dani and others who are at risk of losing their jobs.
• Praise the Lord for the growth in the church, and please pray for a great harvest of souls in Eger!
  

Weekend Outreach

We had a team here from the Bible College in Vajta this weekend, helping us out with various outreaches.
4 of them came, including Dusty, who has been here before and who was a big help to us at our summer English Camp. Dusty made good relationships with some of the kids, also leading 2 girls to the Lord who now attend our church. So, when some of the English Campers heard that Dusty was coming to town, they were excited to see her.
The outreach started on Friday - we planned an English Camp reunion out in the Szépasszonyvölgy, where we go in the summer to do church events like roasting fat over a fire - but we got rained out. However, some of the kids were able to meet us at the local mall, and the team hung out with them.
Saturday, we put up posters and handed out fliers in town which had Bible verses on them, as well as the church information. In the afternoon we went to Heves - a nearby town, where some kids come from to English Camp every year, and did a reunion there. A few kids showed up, and it was nice to see them and follow up a little.
Saturday night, the team went back out on the street with some people from our church and passed out more Bible verses and talked to people about the Lord.
All in all, it was a good weekend, and we certainly accomplished our goal of getting God's Word onto the streets and into people's hands, and of course spreading the word about our church as well.

• Please pray for those who heard about the Lord this weekend, through conversations on the streets, the fliers, and the posters, that God would water those seeds, and they would bear much fruit!

Extreme Baptism

Today we had a baptism service in our church.
We had originally planned it for 2 weeks ago, but it was postponed because of bad weather, meaning that our baptism service was outside at a lake in October!
Needless to say - it was cold. And we won't be doing any baptisms outside this late in the year again. Ever. Although we did say that same thing last year, after our baptism in September...
Despite it being cold and windy, it was a relatively nice day. After lots of rain and cold, today the sun came out and it was nicer than it has been in 3 weeks! Praise the Lord for that - we prayed for it a lot.
3 people were baptized - Dani, Jani, and Noémi. Originally 6 people were signed up, but for various reasons, we ended up with 3 brave souls who went into the cold waters of the lake in Ostoros to make a statement about what God has done in their lives by making them "New Creations" and how they are committed to following Him.

The morning started with our regular church service, but with a short teaching on baptism, and then those who were baptized gave testimonies before the church about what God has done in their lives to bring them to this point. After that, we headed to the lake in a caravan.
One surprise was this - when we were planning the baptism, the dirt road down to the lake was in good condition. Since then, they have started work on paving that road - and then with all the rain, well you can imagine how muddy it was. It was so bad, that we couldn't drive any of the cars down to the lake except for one guy who has a 4-wheel-drive truck. So, on the way down, we all had to walk through the mud. It wasn't very far, but it seemed like it took a muddy eternity, and I felt horrible for all the people who were walking down this mud road in their nice church clothes.
On the way back, we fixed the problem by having the guy with the truck make a few trips up to where we had left the cars, so that only 4 of us guys had to hike out in the mud.
But, we all survived the baptism - in fact it was a great blessing. Afterward, we went back to the church and had a little party to celebrate this big event in the lives of these 3 and in the life of the church.
Please keep Jani, Dani, and Noémi in prayer, that God would strengthen them and use them for His glory and for His Kingdom.

Majoros Wedding

We have a new married couple in our church - Mr. and Mrs. Majoros!
Jani and Ági got married yesterday in the castle in Noszvaj, a village near Eger, where Ági is from.
Ági was one of the very first people in our church here - in fact, she's been around since before we were even a church, since we were just a Bible study meeting in a school on Wednesday nights, and Rosemary and I would drive up from Debrecen every week.
We've always thought that Ági was such a great person, and always prayed that God would give her a good husband and family, so we were really glad when Jani came around and they started dating.
Jani has been in the church for coming up on 2 yrs now. He's a great guy, who helps everyone out a lot - he's been a big help to us with our car. He's also a real man's man, one of a small breed of Hungarian hunters. We get along really well - we often go mountain biking or hiking or snowboarding together.
I officiated the wedding - in Hungarian. This is the second wedding I've done in Hungarian; its a lot of work, but its worth it.
Praise the Lord for bringing Jani and Ági together, and please pray that their marriage would be strong and founded in the ways of the Lord.

Baptism Postponed

We had a baptism scheduled for tomorrow (Sun, Sept 21st), but since we do our baptisms in a lake, and the weather has been really cold and rainy, we have postponed it for 2 weeks, until Oct 5th.
This is also better for a few other reasons too. One of the guys who was to be baptized has to have a small surgery which got scheduled for tomorrow, and also this way more guests will be able to come.
We're believing that this is the Lord's will, but please pray that on Oct 5 there will be good weather, so we don't freeze and die, since that's getting pretty late in the year!

Farewell Bódis Family!

Yesterday at church we prayed for and said goodbye to the Bódis family - Mihály, Ibolya and Dávid.
They have been in our church for the past year, and have been a great blessing and encouragement to our fellowship. As older believers, they were examples for the young people in the church of what it means to follow the Lord with faithfulness and commitment.
One of the hard things in Eger, is that it is hard to find work, so many people who would like to stay end up having to leave for this reason. This was the case with the Bódis family. Finding jobs is a constant pray request for people in our fellowship.
Mihály was the director of a mine in a village outside of Eger, which suddenly closed a few months ago, leaving him out of work. He looked for work around Eger for a few months, but wasn't able to find anything - only a job in Szekszárd, almost 300 km away from Eger, on the other side of the country.
The Bódis family will be missed!

Please pray:

• For the Bódis family, as they move - that God would lead them to a good church in Szekszárd, that they would make friends and settle in quickly to their new situation.
• For our church - that God would bring more families and older people into the fellowship
• For others in our church that are out of work - that they would find work in Eger, that God would provide for them and lead them
  

August Update

Greetings from Eger!

We have had a busy summer! We've had many visitors, spent a good amount of time away from home, and even had a few surprises. God is good, and it has been a very good summer, and a very fruitful time for us.

Visitors
In May, on Pentecost Sunday, our church moved to our new location in the Kálvin Ház, in the heart of the city center. It is a blessing to be there, and we have already experienced the difference that being there makes on our church. Because we are right downtown, the sound of the worship music and the Bible teaching goes out of the open windows and fills the surrounding square. We have already had people come in off the street after seeing our signs and hearing the music.
In the spring we had a visit from Geof and Anjila Stimack, during which time Geof did a presentation on Intelligent Design in the Kálvin Ház to a packed house.
At the end of May, Pastor Ken Lang and his wife Lucy, from Syracuse, NY came to visit us. Pastor Ken has studied marital counseling, and we took advantage of him being here to organize a Marriage Conference. This is something which was timely for our church, as we now have more and more young married couples, and two weddings this summer. The conference was a day long, and we trust that God used it to prepare those who were single or preparing to get married, and helped to strengthen the marriages of those who were already married.
In June, Pastor Tom and Maryellen Stipe from Crossroads Church of Denver visited us here in Eger. It was very encouraging for us to have them in Eger again, as Tom is Nick's sending pastor. During their time here, Tom taught a Sunday service and Maryellen taught a seminar on overcoming depression. Depression is a very widespread problem in Hungary, so we were glad to be able to provide people with Biblical teaching and principles about the subject. The DVD we made of the seminar has sold more copies than any other resource in our church!

• Thank God for the grace He has shown our church and for the growth!
• Pray for those who attended the Intelligent Design Seminar, the Marriage Conference and the Depression Seminar, as well as for those who watch the DVDs.
  

Conferences
In June, we also went to the Foundations Conference - the Eastern European leadership conference for Calvary Chapel. Tom was the guest speaker at the conference, and this year we were excited to bring more people from the church whom God is raising up as leaders. This year along with Shane and his fiance (now his wife), Marianna, we brought Kati, Jani and Tünde. We had a great time of growth and fellowship at this conference, and God used this time to strengthen those who came and teach them a lot about leadership. Next year we hope to bring even more, as God continues to grow the church and raise up leaders from among us.
In July we went to the family camp in Vajta, with 20 people from the church. It was a relaxing time with good teaching and good fellowship. One guy from the church - also named Jani - was baptized at the conference. We are also planning another baptism for September, near Eger, where 3-4 more will be baptized.

• Thank God for the good fruit that came from our times at these Conferences
• Pray that the things that God spoke to us there would be put into practice in our lives and not be easily forgotten
  

Outreach
From July 28-August 4 we had our third English Camp outreach in Felsőtárkány - right outside of Eger. This year we had more kids than ever before - 80 total.
Because of this we had a hard time getting enough teachers, but God provided for us, even in spite of some last minute complications and difficulties.
The camp went very well, praise the Lord! The Gospel was preached, seeds were planted, and a number of campers made commitments to follow Jesus Christ.
Since that time, a number of them have been in church, and we pray they will continue to walk with the Lord and become grounded and strengthened in their new faith.

• Praise God for bringing so many kids to the camp, where they could hear about Him!
• Praise the Lord for bringing us enough helpers, and ones who were committed believers and able to share with the kids what it means to have a relationship with God.
• Pray for the kids who were there and heard the Gospel, that they would respond to the call of the Holy Spirit to give their lives to Jesus and be born-again!
• Pray for those who have made commitments to the Lord, that they would be founded and established in Christ, and that they would come to church.
• Pray for those who have been coming to church, that they would continue, and they would grow as healthy Christians as they learn God's Word and worship Him.
  

Weddings!
Shane Daniels - who works with us here in Eger - got married on July 19th! His wife's name is Marianna, she is from the town of Szolnok, not too far from Eger.
They had a beautiful ceremony near Szolnok, and Nick preached at the wedding in Hungarian.
In September there will be another wedding in the church - Jani and Ági will join their lives together.

• Praise God for bringing Shane and Marianna and Jani and Ági together!
• Pray that God would strengthen their marriages and let them be a strong light to those around them for the Lord.
  

Personal
We have been very busy this summer, and not home very much - which is very hard on Nathaniel, and which makes it hard for him to stay on a normal sleeping schedule.
One good thing, is that Nick's work called and told him he will not be needed for the whole month of August. This gives us the chance to relax a bit after being so busy, and gives Nick the chance to be around the house more with Rosemary and Nate - which we all enjoy!
In the first week of September will be our 4th wedding anniversary and Nate's 1-year birthday, so that week the three of us will go on vacation as a family.
Nate is getting really big. He crawls all the time and is able to stand up and move around, holding on to objects. He will be walking really soon! He is already saying a few words - "Dada, Mama, and Baba" - as well as making all kinds of other vocal experiments all the time!
Rosemary's hands and wrists have been giving her a lot of pain lately, and she has been very tired.

• Thank God for giving us time together.
• Pray that God would draw us together as a family - close to each other and close to Him.
• Pray for Rosemary, that she would be rested and that the pain in her hands and wrists would go away.
• Pray for Nate that he would be healthy as he grows and develops.
• Pray for Nick to manage time well, so he can have lots of quality time with our family.

Courtney

The night our English Camp ended, as we were having our farewell dinner with our helpers from America and from our church, one of the girls from California - Courtney - had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital, where it turned out that she had a blood clot in her head, which is potentially life threatening.
The next day they took her to Miskolc, where there is a Neurological and Stroke intensive care unit, and they have been treating her there, giving her blood thinners to dissolve the clot.
After almost 2 weeks, she just got the news that they will let her out on Thursday!
Praise the Lord that Courtney is ok, and please pray for her continued recovery.

Prayer Request: Jobs

In general in Hungary, it is hard to find work outside of Budapest.
This has been a problem we have faced continuously over our past few years in Eger, as we have said goodbye to people from our church who have had to move away from Eger to find work.
Right now there are quite a few people in the church who are qualified, have degrees, but yet are out of work.
Please pray for these people, that they would find work in Eger, so that they can remain here and be part of the church:

Post English Camp

The English Camp went really well this year - Praise God for that!
With more kids this year, there were some new challenges, but all in all it was a joy, and the kids and teachers all had a great time.
The Gospel was preached and seeds were sown. A number of the campers made commitments to Jesus, and the youth from our church who attended were strengthened as they were able to share their faith with their peers - many of whom are their classmates in school.
On the last day of camp, we passed out invitations for the students to bring their parents to church on Sunday, and today the church was full and people were having a hard time finding seats! I shared an evangelistic message from Ephesians 2:1-10, and we gave Welcome Packets to the parents and copies of Why Grace Changes Everything and More Than a Carpenter to the kids who came.
Praise God for a great camp, and for those who committed their lives to following Him!
