First Service in New Location

Today was Pentecost, and it was also our first Sunday in our new location.
For a long time we've been praying that God would open up a door for us to move the church downtown, so that we could have more visibility and be closer to the heart of the city.
Well, God has opened a door for us to go into a great place right downtown. Its an office building that is owned by the Reformed church, and it has a big hall upstairs which holds 150. It is perfect for a church - its already furnished with chairs, a stage, spotlights, grand piano and all, and it gives us room to grow.
Our first Sunday there went really well, and we just pray that being in this location will help us to reach the city and bring more people into the Kingdom.
One of my personal favorite things about this place is that when I'm preaching, there is a big picture of John Calvin right behind my head!

April Update

Greetings from Eger!

It seems like time is flying! Nathaniel is already 7 months old, he has a tooth and will start crawling soon, and things in the church are going great - praise the Lord!
We were in the US for 5 weeks in February and March, and got to visit a lot of friends, family, and church family. In addition to our usual stops in So. California and Colorado, we also finally made it up to the Bay Area to visit Nick's family up there, as well as our friends and supporters in Gilroy.
It was a great trip, but we were also excited to get back to Eger, to the work that God has called us to, and keep our hands to the plow.

Kálvin Ház
For a long time we have been praying for a new home for the church - a place that would be more central, since most people in Eger walk everywhere, and a place where we could have more visibility. It seems that God has opened up a door for us and answered our prayers. Nick was invited to preach in January for an inter-denominational protestant gathering in Eger, and got to talking with the Reformed minister, who after hearing that we were praying about moving into the city center, offered to let us move in to a building owned by their church, which is just 100 yards from the main square, and right next to the city market.
There is no more central location than this in the whole town! This building is called the Kálvin Ház; it was built in 1711, and it is where the Reformed church of Eger met before they built their current building - and is now used as offices and for special meetings.
There is a big room upstairs which holds about 150 people, already furnished with chairs and a stage, with windows facing the market square, which would be ours every Sunday morning. They also offered us an office space in the building, which we could also use for children's ministry, youth ministry, and even smaller Bible study groups.
We have been negotiating, and everything looks great, but we are still praying about whether or not we should make this move. The biggest change for the church would be that we would have to have the Sunday services in the morning - which is a good thing - but it makes it harder for some people to come. Please join us in praying about this situation!

Calvary Chapel Eger
Things have been well in the church. People are growing and doing well - praise the Lord for that. We are getting prepared right now for our summer activities - our English Camp outreach, baptisms, and the summer conference in Vajta.
This past weekend our church did a music outreach in the city park. It rained for the first hour or so of the outreach, but after that it cleared up, and we had the opportunity to share God's Word with people. This was the first time our church has done an outreach like this without outside help, and one of the great things about it was how many people from the church came out to reach out to their city on a Saturday. We know that God will water the seeds which were planted in people's hearts.
We also have quite a few young people in the church, and so we are praying about starting a youth group. We are seeking the Lord about when and how to do this.

Prayer Requests

• Praise the Lord for the spiritual growth in the church - that people are discovering their gifts and serving the Lord by reaching out to others in His name
  
• For the English Camp to be a fruitful outreach, for helpers to come and assist, for many kids to sign up, and for many to come to know the Lord.
  
• For Ági, who is pregnant and has a heart condition. She had to go to the hospital a month before her due date, because giving birth is potentially dangerous for her.
• For the young couples in the church who will get married this summer - Shane & Marianna and János and Ágnes - to glorify Jesus in their lives and marriages.
  
• For the new believers who will get baptized this summer - for God to strengthen them in their walks with Him.
• For wisdom in following God's leading in starting a youth group

Personal
Ever since the baby was born, Rosemary has been very tired, and not gotten normal amounts of sleep. Nowadays she is busy planning the English Camp and going to visit schools to advertise. The students always get excited to see Nathaniel with her whenever she comes.
Nate is getting bigger; he will be 8 months on May 1st. He has a tooth and is rolling all over and sitting up, and even getting up on all fours.
Nick stays busy with the church stuff and he is also working teaching English a few hours a week, and trying to get some exercise whenever he has the chance. Spring is his favorite time of year here, because it gets so green and beautiful, and he likes to mountain bike.

Prayer Requests

• For Rosemary as she struggles with being tired all the time
• For Nathaniel to grow strong and healthy
• For our marriage to be strong and glorifying to God, as well as an example for others in the church to follow
• For us as parents to raise Nathaniel properly, in the Lord's ways

Intelligent Design Presentation Outreach

This past Thursday we organized an outreach here in Eger with our friend Geof Stimack, from Denver, doing a presentation about the scientific proofs for Intelligent Design and Biblical Creation.
We've done this outreach before, and always drawn big crowds from the city; this time was no exception, as the hall was packed with both Christian believers from local churches, as well as many non-believers who were just interested in the topic. We had a whole group of kids from a local high school come, where some of the youth from our church study. They mentioned the presentation to one of the teachers, who recommended that all the students should attend! Praise the Lord for that!
This is a great way to do outreach in Eger, because people here pride themselves on being cultured and intellectual, so they love to come and listen to lectures. This topic is also very powerful, because if we can prove from science that there must be a creator, then the obvious question is Who is this creator? and Why did He create me?, which are natural ties in to the Gospel.

January Update

Greetings from Eger!

Happy New Year! We feel very blessed as a family and in our ministry here in Eger. Nathaniel is getting cuter and stronger and fatter by the day, and its wonderful having him in our family! Over the past few months we've had some great things happen - Nick's parents visiting, the baby's first Christmas, and a new elder in the church, just to name a few.

We would like to let all of you know that we will be traveling to America for 5 weeks in February and March. We will be in S.California from Feb 12-26, the Bay Area from Feb 27-March 2, and in Denver from March 3-17.
We would love to see you, so please write us if you would like to meet up, so we can plan ahead.

Church
A New Stage: We feel that we have reached a new stage in our church plant. Up until recently, the focus of our work was on establishing the church and laying down foundations. Praise the Lord, that in many ways, He has established us as a church - we have grown in numbers and have a strong core congregation, we are now registered with the government, we are recognized by the other churches in town and included in all interdenominational activities, and we have a good reputation in the city.
We feel now that we have moved on to a new stage - where our focus is now on raising up leaders from among the church. Nowadays we spend a lot of time encouraging and teaching the church to stir up their spiritual gifts and begin serving the Lord in different ways. This is a very exciting time, as we see the fruit of what God has been doing among us over the last couple years!
A New Elder: About a year ago we found out that our elders at that time (Bernie and Attila) would both be moving away from Eger, so we began praying that God would raise up new leaders from among us to fill this important position in the church. And truly, God did answer our prayers and raised up new elders: Shane Daniels (who also leads worship and assists in the church), and now also Hernádi János (Jani), who became an elder on January 6th.
Jani has been in the church almost since the beginning, and we see real commitment in his life to know God and do His will. Jani and his wife Tünde are very involved in the church - we hold the Wednesday night home fellowship at their house every week.
We can see that God's hand is upon our church, and that He has always provided for us in every way!

Prayer Requests:

• Praise God for what He has done in Eger and in our church over the past few years
• Praise God for the Christmas Day service, to which many people's unsaved family members came and got to hear the Gospel message
• Pray that the people in the church would grow and mature spiritually
• For Hernádi Jani to be led by the Lord as an elder in the church
• For our Church Retreat (Feb 8-10) in Mátrafüred; that God would bless it, and the church would grow together as a body and grow closer to the Lord.
• For a more families to join the church
• For a church building near the center of town
• For a great harvest of souls in Eger!
  

Family
In November Nick's parents came to visit us in Eger and see Nathaniel. We had a great time with them, as we got to travel around a bit and relax.
We had our first Christmas with Nathaniel; he loved to stare at the Christmas lights! We actually all got very sick on Christmas day, after church, with a nasty stomach virus. It wasn't very funny at the time, but now we think back on it and laugh that that's how we spent our first Christmas together. Rosemary prepared a lot of food, and we weren't able to eat a thing!
Nathaniel is doing great - he talks and laughs a lot nowadays! He talks mostly to us, to his stuffed animals, and to himself in the mirror! He's super cute.
Rosemary is having fun running again; she's preparing to do a road race up to Hungary's highest peak in May.

• Praise God that Nathaniel is healthy and happy
• Praise God that Rosemary is in good health after the pregnancy
• Please pray for our trip to Germany (Jan 19-26), when Nick will go to a Pastor's Conference in Siegen, and Rosemary will visit friends
• For our trip to America in Feb-March, especially for Nathaniel to have a good time on the airplane

A New Elder

As of yesterday we have a new elder in our church: Hernádi János (Jani).
About a year ago we found out that our elders at that time (Bernie and Attila) would be moving away from Eger, and at that time we began to pray that God would raise up new leaders from among us to fill this important position in the church.
And truly God answered our prayers and raised up new elders - Shane Daniels (who also leads worship and assists with many things) and now Jani too.
Jani has been in the church almost since the beginning, and we can see a real commitment in his life to know God and do His will. Jani and his wife Tünde have are very involved in the church - we hold the Wednesday night home fellowship at their house every week.
Please pray for Jani as he takes on this new role!

October Update

Greetings from Eger!

The Lord has been blessing us so much and some very exciting things have taken place over the last few months in our lives and in our ministry; so much so, that I will have to be sparing with the details for this update, otherwise it would be too long!

Family
Firstly and most importantly, the greatest thing the Lord has done in our lives lately is the birth of our son: Nathaniel Nicholas. Nate (or Nandi, as some people in the church like to call him) was born September 1st at the county hospital here in Eger, and he is perfectly healthy and beautiful - praise the Lord!
Rosemary's labor wasn't short, but there were no complications, and Nick got to be there with her for the whole thing.
Obviously his birth has brought about a lot of changes in our lives - especially in that we are both very tired - but we are happy about this new stage in our lives, in our marriage, and ministry-especially for Rosemary.
Nick's parents will be coming to visit and see the baby for two weeks in October and November, which we are looking forward to.

• Praise the Lord for the gift of our son Nathaniel
• Pray that God would watch over Nathaniel and take care of him
• Pray for us as we get used to being parents, that we would have much patience and energy and much wisdom from God

Calvary Chapel Eger
On September 23rd our church had a baptism at a lake near Eger. 5 people from the church were baptized, showing their commitment to following Jesus even in spite of the cold water. This was the first baptism service we've done in Eger, and it was a blessing to see many family members and friends come to the service - which was exactly what we had prayed for. This was actually our church's second baptism this summer - the first one being at the Summer Conference in Vajta, where 4 others were baptized. It has been a real blessing to see the fruit that God is bringing out of the ministry here in such as visible way, especially as 2 of those who were baptized had come into the church through this summer's English Camp outreach.
On September 30th our church had its founding meeting, in which we went through the necessary formalities to become an official church in the eyes of the government. This was a very big milestone in our ministry here, having come here a few years ago with a vision from the Lord to start a church in this city, and now arriving at the point where God has built a church and we are now officially registered. Praise the Lord for what He has done and continues to do! As you can imagine, there were a lot of preparations for this to happen, as we had to write by-laws and get official documents, and actually this process isn't quite complete yet as we are still waiting for approvals.
One other thing that is new in the church is that Shane Daniels - the church worship leader - has now been appointed an elder in the church. He is a blessing here and has been faithfully doing the work of an elder for some time now, even without the title. Shane will be leaving to America for 6 weeks in October and November, which will be a difficult time for us, not having his help, and having to cover his responsibilities and ministries.
This next Saturday - October 13th - we will be doing a music outreach in the city park. We have done these outreaches before, and they've been very effective. There will be a team coming from the Bible School in Vajta to serve with us, and with them we will also organize a follow up meeting for kids who came to the English Camp this summer.

Prayer Requests:

• Praise God for the growth in the church and the commitment to Him of those who were baptized. Pray for their continued spiritual growth as they follow Jesus.
• Praise God for the church He has begun here and for bringing us to the milestone of becoming officially registered. Please continue to pray for this, as there are still a few steps to make before we are finished.
  
• Pray for those in the church who God is raising up as new leaders in the different ministries - worship ministry, children's ministry, church leadership, etc...
• Pray that more men and families would join the church
• Pray that our outreaches to the city would be fruitful
• For the time that Shane is in America, that others would step up to fill the gap
  
• For the young believers to be founded in their faith and led by the Holy Spirit
  
• For the church to have a heart of worship
• For a great harvest of souls in Eger!

Birth Announcement

August Update

Greetings from Eger!

This summer has been very eventful and very hot! At the time we are writing this, Rosemary is 9 months pregnant, and only 9 days away from her due date. We are so excited to meet our baby boy in just a few days from now!

Calvary Chapel Eger
We have been so blessed to see growth in the church in the past few months, both as we see people growing in their walk with the Lord and as we see the church grow in numbers.
In July, many of us from the church went down to Vajta for the Summer Conference. It was a great week of relaxing, fellowship, and Bible teaching. At the end of the week 4 people from the church decided to show their commitment to following Jesus by being baptized!
In the next two months we will be saying goodbye to 2 families who have been in the church since we began two years ago. The Winkelmann family and the Kovács family have been a great blessing to the church, as mature believers who have been strong examples for the younger believers, as well as to us as friends. The husbands of these families: Bernie and Attila, have both served as elders in the church, and they will be greatly missed!

Prayer Requests:

• Praise God for the growth in the church!
• Pray for continued growth in the church - that God would build us up and use us in a mighty way to reach people in Eger for Jesus!
• Pray for those who have recently been baptized, that they would grow and be strong in their faith.
  
• Pray for the church as we say goodbye to the Kovács and Winkelmann families, that God would raise up others to be mature leaders.
• Pray for the Children's Ministry - that the girls will be able to handle the kids and do this ministry effectively while Rosemary is having the baby and unsure of when she will be able to do it again.
  

Outreaches:
- In early July, our friend Geof Stimack was in Eger, and presented a lecture in the Eger college/university about the scientific proofs for Biblical Creationism. Despite the fact that school was not in session, we drew a crowd of 65-70 people, and had very good responses, including many people who are interested in meeting with us and studying the Bible.

- From July 30 to August 4th, we held our second English Camp outreach here in Eger. This year we had 50 campers and 15 helpers. Along with the Hungarians from our church, who served by teaching and ministering to the kids, we had great helpers from Syracuse, San Diego, San Jose, and England.
At the camp our method of evangelism is "Friendship Evangelism," where we seek to build relationships with the students, and share the Gospel with them as we also share our lives with them. In addition to the Friendship Evangelism, every afternoon we had testimony times, where each day one of the helpers would talk about their life and how they became a believer. Even though this part of the camp wasn't compulsory for the campers, almost all of them came each day, and each time they heard the Gospel explained very clearly!
The camp was very fruitful! Many students prayed to receive Jesus, and many of them are already plugging into the church. One girl, named Szilvi, came to camp last year as a Buddhist, but during the course of this year's camp decided to become a Christian! Szilvi and others from the camp have started coming to church and worshiping and studying the Bible with us.

• Praise God for those who have gotten saved through our recent outreaches!
  
• Pray for these new Christians, that they would be established in their faith.
  
• Pray for the many people who we have shared the Gospel with, that they would choose to put their faith in Jesus.
• Pray for a great harvest of souls in Eger!

Personal
Right now, the biggest focus of our lives is preparing for the baby! At the time we are writing this, we are expecting him to come any day, and we are very excited. We have (almost) everything in place for the baby to come, and we can't wait to hold him in our arms!
And, of course the baby has already started changing many things about our lives! We've been spending more time around the house, and more time together.
After 2 years of holding the Wednesday night Bible study in our apartment, we have moved it to the home of another couple, Jani and Tünde, to give us more privacy, which we need now with the baby coming.
We've been very blessed by the people in the church, who have been a great help. Girls from the church have been coming over to help Rosemary with chores, so that she can rest.
As we wait for the baby, Nick is taking a break from teaching the Bible studies, and is blessed to have help with that from Shane.
In general, we are really enjoying this time of our lives, and feel completely, absolutely blessed by God!

• Praise God for a smooth and healthy pregnancy!
• Pray for Rosemary's delivery, that it would be easy and short, and that our son would be totally healthy.
  
• Pray for us, that God would make us into good parents, who are able to raise our son well and teach him to walk with God.

Oh Canada!

For the past 9 months, our church has had the blessing of having a couple from Vancouver, B.C. - Rob and Kitty Beck - as part of our fellowship. They spent a year teaching English in the nearby town of Heves, and came to our church during their time here.
This past Sunday we said goodbye to them, as they left to go back to Canada.
Rob and Kitty (and Bandito the férfi dog) are going to be missed, as they were a blessing to all us with their wisdom, maturity, and support.
Please pray that God would bless them as they go back, and that God would use the seeds that they planted for His Kingdom to bring about much good fruit here in Hungary.

We don't often put up pictures of our church - mainly because we don't take many pictures during church, because we are too busy worshiping and being in fellowship!
But this past weekend we took some pictures, so in case you haven't seen it before, you can get a better "picture" of what our church is like.



Prayer Request
Please pray for our English Camp, which is coming up this summer. We do this camp as an outreach to local youth. We already have 22 kids officially signed up, and are counting on quite a few more.
Please pray that many kids would come to our camp, and that we would be able to powerfully and effectively share the Gospel message with them.

May Update

Greetings from Eger!

We are back in Eger now, after having been away in America for 5 weeks. Like any trip it felt long in some ways and too short in other ways, but we are glad to be back, and glad to be doing what the Lord has called us to do here in Eger.

Personal News
In America we went to two weddings, one for Nick's former roommate, Pisti, and the other for our good friend Naveen. Nick had the privilege of being the best man in both weddings! We also celebrated the wedding anniversary of Nick's parents, and visited friends and supporters in Southern California and Syracuse, NY.
The baby is growing well, and is totally healthy - Praise the Lord! The doctors tell us that Junior (as we call him for now, until we pick out a real name) is a boy! We are looking forward to meeting our son and raising him up in the Lord's ways.
Rosemary is also doing well carrying Junior - although she does have difficulty getting used to not sleeping on her back. But other than minor discomfort, everything is going great, and we are so thankful.
The baby is due on August 22, and will be born here in Eger. We have our big English Camp outreach on the first week of August, so we are praying that the baby won't come by then, but we're making plans in case that happens.
Nick has been swimming and mountain biking a lot in his free time, and Rosemary has been reading a lot about babies and trying to get some exercise herself. We are glad to both have more and more guys in the church for Nick to hang out with, as well as women and moms for Rosemary to hang out with.
All around we are very excited about what God is doing in our lives and we feel very blessed.

Calvary Chapel Eger
Our church had its 2 year anniversary on Easter this year! Two years ago we started having Sunday services with a small group of people, and God has caused that group to grow and expand, and for people to get saved through it. When we look back over the last 2 years since we've started, we're just amazed at how God has worked among us and established us as Christians and as a Church.
Unfortunately, we couldn't be here for this anniversary, but we wrote a letter to the church, which they read aloud during the service.
While we were in America, Shane taught through the book of Jonah on Sundays, and on Wednesdays Attila and Shane shared the teaching schedule. If anything, it seems that the church is even stronger than when we left! Some of the fruit that shows us the church is doing well, is that while we were gone they organized on their own an outreach in a park, with the worship team playing music and sharing the Gospel, as others went and talked to people and invited them to church and talked with them about Jesus. They also organized a worship night on Good Friday which was well attended. We are so blessed to see these things!
Since April our church now rents an office in the building where we have our Sunday services. This is a great blessing, as we now have a place to do church business, like counseling, accounting, worship practice, etc... (I am actually writing you from the office right now!)
One thing which we are very glad to see is the expansion of our worship ministry. Shane has been doing a very good job of training people both musically and spiritually in what it means to lead worship. On Sundays there are usually 4 people in the band, but there are at least 7 people right now who are involved in the worship ministry in some way. Our worship team here has even begun to translating new songs into Hungarian - which is a blessing as it is always good to sing a new song unto the Lord.
This summer will be full of conferences and camps. At the family camp this summer quite a few of the new Christians from our fellowship will be baptized!
The highlight of our summer will be the English Camp (July 30 - Aug 4), which is an outreach we do to local high school and college age kids. We have helpers coming from Syracuse, Vista, Denver, and San Jose, to spend a week with Hungarian youth, teaching them English and sharing the Lord with them through Friendship Evangelism. The picture here is of the poster we use to advertise the camp in local schools.

- Praise God for the work He is doing here in Eger - for the church and for those in it who have committed their lives to following Jesus
- Pray that many people in Eger would turn to God and be saved
- Pray for an outpouring of God's Spirit on our church

Retreat

Our church retreat was really blessed. Thank you to those of you who prayed for us.
26 of us from the church went about an hour from Eger from Friday to Sunday (Feb 2-4) for a weekend of hiking, worshiping the Lord, and studying the Word.
Our prayer for the weekendwas that this even would be something which would bring the church closer to each other and to the Lord, both of which I believe happened.
We are praising God for the great work He is doing in the hearts of all the Jani's in our church (we have 3)!
Sunday evening, one Jani told me - "I really feel that I got closer to God this weekend!" Praise the Lord for that! This is the Jani who is Kati's brother; we'd been praying for him for over a year, and he just got saved in December, and we've seen a radical change in his life.
We are also praising God for the changes He has brought about in the lives of the other two Jani's - forming them into true spiritual leaders, first in their relationships and slowly in the church as well.

Praise God for what He is doing among us, and lets pray that God would continue to work in a mighty way in Eger!

January Update

Greetings from Eger!

Let us start with the big news: We are doing our part to grow the church in Eger—Rosemary is pregnant! Our due date is August 22, so we’ve got a while to wait, but we are very excited, as are all the people in the church.

Personal
The main thing going on with us right now is the pregnancy. Rosemary hasn’t been feeling well—she has morning sickness all day long—and because of this she hasn’t been able to do as much as before. You who know Rosemary know that she loves to be active, and she is getting tired of being sick and not feeling well.
We have found a private doctor, which we have to pay for, but we think its worth it. Rosemary will deliver at the county hospital here in Eger.
Aside from this, Nick is also glad to have guys to hang out with; he goes mountain biking with Shane and a new guy in the church named Jani.

Prayer Requests
- Praise the Lord for the wonderful gift of a baby
- Pray for Rosemary to feel better and for everything to go well with the pregnancy
- Pray that God would prepare us to be good, godly parents
- Pray for Rosemary, as she is not able to be as active as before, which is hard for her

Calvary Chapel Eger
During the month of December, our worship leader and assistant, Shane Daniels, was in the States visiting family, which meant that Nick had a lot more to do, but it was a blessing to see people in the church step up and help out.
Kati, our translator, has been added to our leadership team now, but for the last few weeks has had to work in Tatabánya – about 3 hrs from Eger. Thankfully, she is still able to come on Sundays, but because of her absence Nick has begun teaching in Hungarian on Wednesdays, which he enjoys.
Our Christmas service was very blessed.
Some friends of ours from Debrecen, David and Csilla, came up to do some special Christmas music, and many from the church brought their family members and guests.
We have some new faces in the church. For a long time the majority of the church was young girls, but recently we have had more men and elderly people joining the church. Nick has been invited by some ladies in the church to speak at a club for women who suffer from cancer, and he was been able to share God’s word with them.
We praise the Lord for the huge changes that He has brought about in the lives of people in the church. As we simply teach them God’s Word, we see people’s hearts change. One person in particular is Kati’s brother, János, whom we have known for a while, but recently God spoke to Him and his whole attitude changed, and now he has a desire to know God and study His Word and be in fellowship. Jani has also joined the worship team since then.
From Feb 2-4 our church will have its first Church Retreat! We are going to spend the weekend in Mátrafüred – about an hour from Eger. We had 25 places available, and we have 28 people who signed up, so it will be packed. Pápai Jancsi will come from Debrecen to teach a few Bible studies, and we will spend time worshiping and being in fellowship.

Prayer Requests
- Praise God for the work He has been doing in the hearts of those in the church.
- Pray for the Church Retreat from Feb 2-4 in Mátrafüred, that it would be a blessed time of fellowship, which draws the church closer to the Lord and to each other.
- Pray for those who are new in the church to become established in their faith.
- Pray for more Children’s Ministry workers.

November update

Greetings from Eger!

This past September we had the opportunity to spend 5 weeks in the United States, which was a great blessing. We were encouraged and refreshed, and it was great to meet with all of our family, friends, and supporters. This was the first time we have been back “home” since we got married 2 years ago!

Calvary Chapel Eger
During the time we were gone, Shane Daniels, our new worship leader since July, taught in the church and led worship. It is really nice to have this help and be able to leave sometimes, which we haven’t really been able to do until now. We got back to Eger to find some new faces in the church, most notably a young married couple with a new baby, Ági and András.
We continue to do outreach, and are blessed to see some fruit from it. Every Friday Shane leads a group of youth from our church into town to put up flyers and talk to people about the Lord and invite them to church. A man named Zoltán has started coming to the church recently through this outreaches, and we are blessed to see the people in our church wanting to reach out to their comunity and reach people for Jesus.
On November 9th, we organized an outreach to business people through a seminar taught by our friend Geof Stimack. The turnout wasn’t what we had hoped for, but we did have some people who were very interested in hearing more about the Lord, and we are seeking to follow up with them this week. We also had one man, named László, who has been to some of our previous outreaches, and is very interested, but still hasn’t made a decision to follow Jesus. In Eger there is a huge interest in Eastern Religion, and we have had many people come to our outreaches who are trying to decide between Christ and Krishna or Buddha. Please pray that they would not be decieved!
We are praying about God’s leading for some other outreaches that we could do in Eger, as well as praying about starting a new Bible Study in the nearby city of Heves (Hevesh). There is a couple who are making the 1 hr bus trip to our church on Sundays from Heves, and also some girls from Kál (near Heves) who got saved at our English Camp outreach, so we are praying for the Lord’s timing as to when to go and start a new Bible study there.
We have started organizing events for our Friday night “Fellowship Nights,” with the hope that people will be able to invite friends and co-workers to them. This Friday we are organizing a Thanksgiving celebration at the language school where Kati works. We are praying this would be a way that we could meet people and share the Lord with them.

Prayer requests:
- For much fruit from our outreaches and for many to be saved!
- For God’s leading and provision for more and different kinds of outreach in Eger
- For God’s leading on starting Bible studies in Heves and other nearby cities
- For the people in our church—most of them are struggling financially and having trials in regard to their families. Pray that the Lord would help them to trust in Him through these difficulties and use these trials to make them more dependent on Him
- For the outreach team from the Bible College in Vajta that is coming to Eger on December 1-3
- For the Women’s Christmas Tea on December 16th
- For the Lord to bring more men to the church and raise them up into leaders
- For the people in the church—some of them have a lot of demands on their time and have not been coming to church because of it


Personal
When we first started the church we had an “open door” policy for everyone, where they could just come over any time they wanted. In the beginning, when the church was quite small, almost no one ever came over. But with the church growing, this past summer our house was almost constantly full of people. Obviously this took a toll on us personally, so one thing we have been learning to do is to set up some boundaries on who comes over when. This is especially important for our marriage. We have also been holding on to our “Sabbath Day” (for us Monday) very seriously as a day of rest, where we focus only on the Lord and on each other.
We are doing well and are both really happy to be here in Eger, and excited about what God is doing.
Shane is going to be gone for 5 weeks in December and January, which will mean that things will be busier for us and we will have more to do, as well as making things a bit lonely! He and Nick are good friends, and we enjoy working with him. We also miss April Shondee, who served with us for a year and a half before moving back to Denver after getting sick.

Prayer requests:
- For our marriage to be strong and a good example
- For strength and encouragement as things get a bit lonely sometimes
- For Rosemary’s problems with her hands and feet
- For Nick’s skin problems (getting worse in the winter)
- For Rosemary’s Hungarian to continue to improve

August update

Greetings from Eger!
This past month has been very busy for us, with outreaches and many visitors, but, Praise God, along with being eventful, it has also been fruitful!

Calvary Chapel of Eger
Usually summer is a slow time in the church, as many people travel and students are away for the break, but we have been seeing God bring new people into our fellowship this summer.
This fall, we will move to a larger room in the same building, to accomodate the growth of the church, and to give us more room for the worship team, which is pretty cramped right now!
One interesting thing is that through a brother from Budapest, we have gotten in contact with a family in a village near Eger called Szihalom, and now every week Nick is driving there and bringing people to church in Eger. The son of the family, Norbi, has since given his life to the Lord, and many others from the village are showing up and asking if they can come to church too! One of these guys in particular recently told Nick that he too would like Jesus to work in his life and change him! God is at work!
Shane Daniels is now here and settling in nicely. He is a great blessing to the church, as he leads the worship team, assists Nick, and will be discipling young men. Shane will be teaching in the church for the time that we are away in September.
The church will be going through a time of transition soon; at the end of this month Andi Gombai, who has been our translator, will be moving back to Budapest. Kati will become the main translator, and probably she will have some help with that from other girls during September while we are gone. When we return, Nick is planning to start teaching Wednesdays in Hungarian and Sundays in English, with Kati translating.

• Praise God for the work that He is doing in Eger and in the surrounding villages
• Pray that many people here would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus and be plugged into the church and discipled
• Praise God that He is answering our prayers and bringing more men and families into the church. Pray that He would continue to do that!
• Pray for spiritual awakening in Eger and in Szihalom
• Pray for Shane and the church for the time that we are in America
• Pray for the church as it goes through this time of transition
• Pray for Rosemary as she disciples the girls and leads the women's ministry, especially as the 2 others on staff will be leaving
• Pray for our Hungarian, as Nick will teach the mid-week study and Rosemary does the children's ministry speaking a foreign language

Outreaches
In the last month, we have had two bigger outreaches: a VBS kids' camp, and an English Camp for teenagers.
The VBS was not as well attended as we hoped, although there were kids who came out, and Rosemary, with help from many girls in the church as well as some friends from America, taught them about Jesus and had a great time. We realized the spiritual attack that was upon us when we got word from one of the mothers that many people in town had gotten the idea that this was a Children's Camp organized by the Hare Krishnas!

The English Camp was a BIG success! We'd been praying a lot before the camp that God would prepare the hearts of the kids who would come to receive the Gospel. During the camp, 2 girls prayed to receive Jesus as their Savior, and others recommitted their lives to the Lord. More were very interested in checking out the church, and others in coming to our English Club outreach, which meets every week, and is a tool for us to make relationships with people in town, through which we can share the Gospel.

• Pray for those who got saved and gave their lives to the Lord during the English Camp (Bianka, Nikol, Balázs, & Tamás), that they would be plugged into the church and discipled
• Pray for the kids who had seeds planted in them, that Satan would not be able to come and steal those seeds away, but that they would be watered and bear much fruit
• Pray for the English Club to be well attended and an effective tool

April
Please keep April Shondee in prayer. For the last 4 weeks she has been sick. The doctors still aren't completely sure what she has, but they are getting closer to the answer. On Monday she is scheduled to have an endoscope to see what the root of the problem is. They have narrowed it down that it is not a neurological nor a dermatological problem, but an internal medicine issue.
We have been doing everything we can to help April, and have spent many hours with her in the hospital, as they try to figure out what is wrong with her. She will be moving into our apartment this week, so that we can better take care of her. It looks like April will be going home to be with her family during this trying time; her absence will leave a gap in the church administration and the children's ministry.

• Pray for April's healing!

Personal
We are tired after this month of visitors and outreaches, and are looking forward to our time in America.
This week Nick submitted his request for an extension on his residence permit. They could say no, but we are trusting in God, that He is sovereign and that His will will be done.
We would love to see all of you while we are in America; we have a busy schedule, so if you would like to meet, please let us know ahead of time so we can make plans.

• Pray that Nick would get his residence permit extension so he can stay in Hungary
• Rosemary has not been to the refugee camp this summer, and will not be there again until the fall. Serif, who moved there to visit the camp has not been able to be in the camp because of his job. Those of you who have loved to support this ministry-please keep praying for the camp and for Serif.

July Update

Greetings from Eger!

Our lives seem to stay busy, but summer time is always especially busy, with all of the summer outreaches and conferences.
We really ask for you to pray for us this summer as we seek to reach out to Eger and make disciples of Jesus Christ!

Calvary Chapel of Eger
One hard thing about summer time is that many people are away, and some of the studens have now graduated and moved away from Eger for good. We were very sad to say goodbye to one girl in particular, Vica, whom we have seen God change and grow so much over the past year. The hard part of ministry is getting close to people, seeing God work in their life, and then having to say goodbye.
We are encouraged by other students though, like Kati and Brigi, who after their graduation have decided to settle down in Eger and try to find work here so they can be part of the church.
We continue to see God bringing new people to the church and causing us to grow in Him.
Shane Daniels, from Calvary Chapel San Jose, CA, is moving out this month to serve the church in Eger as a worship leader and an assistant to Nick. We see Shane's moving out here as an answer to much prayer!

• Praise God for answering our prayers for a worship leader/assistant
• Praise God for the obvious work He is doing in the lives of people in the church
• Please pray for a great harvest of souls in Eger!
• For endurance in planting seeds for the Kingdom
• For more men and families to join the church
• For those in the church to stir up their spiritual gifts and step up into ministry
• For Shane, that God would effectively use him here to build up the church body

Outreaches
This summer we have 2 main outreaches planned; a Children's Vacation Bible School (July 17-21), and an English Camp (July 31-August 4)
The goal with the VBS is to reach out to the many young families who live in the low-income housing area where the church meets on Sundays. As our church is made up of mostly young singles, we are praying that God would add more families to the fellowship as well, and that this Children's program would help us to meet families and share Jesus with them.
The English Camp is geared towards reaching teenagers and college students and to share the Gospel with them through "Friendship Evangelism." We have 35 students signed up, which we think is great considering this is the first year for the camp.
Organizing these camps was something we were very involved in in Debrecen, and something which we have seen to be a very effective tool in God's hands. It was actually through the English Camp in 2003 that our church got started, as Judit received Jesus, and Rosemary and I began to travel to Eger to meet with her and disciple her.

• Please pray for the VBS to be used by God to bring families into the church; that many kids would come and that we would have the opportunity to share the Gospel with their parents as well
• Pray for God to work at the English Camp, and to work in the hearts of the kids.
• Pray that we would have many opportunities to share the Gospel with students and that God would make their hearts fertile soil that receives the Word and then produces much fruit
• Pray for those who heard the Gospel through Geof Stimack's Da Vinci Code presentations in early June
• Pray that God would be at work in this city, drawing many to Himself

Personal
We were blessed with the opportunity to travel a bit recently. Along with a leadership conference in Vajta, we were also able to take a trip to England in June.
In England we took a little time just to be together, as well as meeting up with a girl from the church in Eger who is now working outside of London as an aupair. We also spent 4 days in York, attending a pastor's conference, which was a great blessing as we both got to spend time with our pastors from America, who were both teaching there.
This September we will be going to America for a visit. Neither of us has been home to visit our families, friends, or churches in almost 2 years, so we are really looking forward to it. While we are there we will also attend the engagement of our good friend Naveen in Dallas.
One of the blessings of God bringing Shane here is that it gives us the opportunity to do things like visit home, and have someone who can lead the church in the meantime.

• Please pray for God to give us much endurance during this busy summer season
• For us both as we both have physical ailments (Rosemary's hands and feet, and now we both have skin problems)
• For our marriage to be strong and founded upon God's Word
